teamLab Planets Tokyo is one of the most memorable digital art experiences in Japan. Located in Toyosu, this immersive museum by art collective teamLab invites visitors to move through large-scale artwork spaces using their whole body, including walking barefoot through water, mirrored rooms, flowers, light and sound. The official concept describes teamLab Planets as a museum where you “walk through water,” with artworks that change depending on the presence and movement of visitors.

Unlike a traditional museum, teamLab Planets Tokyo is designed to be physical. You do not just look at the art from a distance; you step into it, move through it and become part of the work. This makes it especially popular with first-time Tokyo visitors, couples, families, photographers and anyone looking for a visually impressive indoor activity.

The main experience at teamLab Planets Tokyo is built around immersive artwork zones. One of the most famous is Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People – Infinity, where visitors walk through water as digital koi swim around them. The movement of the koi changes in response to people in the space, and when the fish collide with visitors, they turn into flowers and scatter.

Another highlight is The Infinite Crystal Universe, a sparkling light installation where visitors can use their smartphones to interact with the artwork. The official site explains that the light sculpture evolves in response to the people inside the space, meaning the artwork changes moment by moment.

The Floating Flower Garden is one of the most photogenic parts of teamLab Planets Tokyo. The room is filled with real orchids that rise above visitors, creating open spaces as people move through the artwork. The flowers also change in scent depending on the time of day, with stronger fragrance at night.

The museum has also expanded beyond its original water and garden artworks. Current areas include Athletics Forest, a more physical interactive space, plus Catching and Collecting Forest, where visitors can use the teamLab app to capture, study and release animals inside the digital artwork.

There is also food and shopping inside the venue. Vegan Ramen UZU Tokyo is accessible only after entering teamLab Planets and serves ramen exclusive to the Toyosu venue, while the Living Art Store and Sketch Factory let visitors buy orchids from the Floating Flower Garden or turn their own drawings into souvenirs.

teamLab Planets Tokyo is easy to reach by train. The closest station is Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome Line, just one minute on foot from the North Exit. The venue is also around five minutes from Shijomae Station and Toyosu Market, or around ten minutes from Toyosu Station Exit 7 on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line.

A paid dedicated shuttle bus also runs between GINZA SIX and teamLab Planets, which may be useful for visitors combining Toyosu with a day in Ginza. The venue also has mirrored floors, and rental shorts or wraps are available if needed. Free lockers are provided after entry, and personal belongings are generally not allowed inside the artwork spaces for safety and hygiene reasons.

For one of Tokyo’s most visual and interactive attractions, teamLab Planets Tokyo is still an easy recommendation. Book ahead, arrive on time, go barefoot, and leave enough space in your schedule to experience the artworks slowly rather than rushing through for photos.
