Accessibility Statement

Effective date: 20 May 2026
Last updated: 20 May 2026

The Japan Index is committed to making its website accessible and usable for as many people as possible, including people with disabilities.

We want all visitors to be able to access information about Japan travel, hotels, restaurants, cafés, flights, events, attractions, culture, and related services in a way that is clear, inclusive, and easy to use.

1. Our commitment

The Japan Index aims to provide a website experience that is accessible to users with a wide range of abilities and technologies, including:

  • Screen readers

  • Keyboard navigation

  • Voice recognition software

  • Browser zoom and text resizing tools

  • Mobile and tablet accessibility features

  • Assistive technologies used by people with visual, hearing, cognitive, or motor disabilities

We are continually working to improve the accessibility, usability, and readability of our website.

2. Accessibility standard

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines — WCAG 2.2, Level AA, where reasonably possible.

These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

3. Measures we take to support accessibility

To improve accessibility across our website, we aim to:

  • Use clear and readable text

  • Maintain a logical page structure

  • Use headings to organize content

  • Provide meaningful link text where possible

  • Support keyboard navigation where possible

  • Use sufficient color contrast where possible

  • Add alternative text to important images where possible

  • Make forms as clear and usable as possible

  • Keep layouts responsive for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices

  • Review accessibility issues as the website is updated

4. Current accessibility status

The Japan Index is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

“Partially conformant” means that some parts of the website may not fully meet the accessibility standard yet. We are working to identify and improve these areas over time.

5. Known limitations

While we aim to make the website accessible, some areas may not yet be fully accessible. These may include:

  • Older images that may not have full alternative text

  • Third-party embedded content, such as maps, videos, social media feeds, booking tools, or reservation platforms

  • External websites linked from The Japan Index

  • Some forms or newsletter signup features provided by third-party platforms

  • Some decorative or promotional images

  • Some older pages or articles that may need formatting improvements

  • PDFs, downloadable files, or media content that may not yet be fully accessible

We are working to improve these areas where possible.

6. Third-party content and external links

The Japan Index may link to or embed content from third-party websites and platforms, including hotels, restaurants, booking platforms, travel providers, social media platforms, video platforms, map services, affiliate partners, and advertising partners.

We cannot control the accessibility of third-party websites or services. However, where possible, we aim to work with platforms and providers that support accessibility.
